Where in the world is the TRIMEDX Foundation: Sierra Leone Q2 '25 Trip Highlight

Dan Angst (TRIMEDX), Jimmie Norman (TRIMEDX), and Joshua Scott (TRIMEDX) kicked of the TRIMEDX Foundation’s Q2 volunteer trips flying to Lungi, Sierra Leone in support of the Rashid Conteh Memorial Foundation. The three-man volunteer team worked alongside Dr. Hassan Sesay, traveling to Bai Bureh Memorial Hospital and Evans Medical Center, about 45 miles away, and volunteering 72 hours.

Dan and Jimmie set up the hospitals’ Spacelab monitors, bringing along the needed parts and accessories to ensure the equipment was in good working order, and trained the nurses how to connect their patients to monitor their patients’ cardiac and respiratory vitals. Joshua worked to set up the hospital’s Olympus endoscopy tower, ensuring that doctors had access to mobile, high-definition imaging, supporting operations including gastroenterology (digestive systems), urology (urinary tract and reproductive systems), and pulmonology (respiratory systems) operations.

This was the TRIMEDX Foundation’s first visit to both hospitals, which serve a community of more than 5,000 patients a year in the western Sierra Leone community. Last year, the foundation provided Dr. Sesay with a portable ultrasound machine, donated by Probo Medical for the foundation’s Close the Gap initiative, which enabled him to host ultrasound clinics for the first time, serving nearly 6,000 patients annually between the two facilities. With this piece of vital healthcare equipment, Dr. Sesay’s medical interventions reduced the maternal mortality rate by 90% within the first few months of use. You can read more about how Dr. Sesay’s interventions with this donated ultrasound helped close this critical healthcare gap on our blog here.

The TRIMEDX Foundation continues to seek initiative partners who can help us close the gap in global healthcare outcomes where we serve by seeking partnerships with those able to:

  • Volunteer your technical, medical, or logistical expertise
  • Donate your gently used or surplus medical equipment
  • Collaborate to sponsor or support a project
  • Contribute financially through a one-time or recurring donation
