Where in the World Is TRIMEDX Foundation?

In the realm of global health care, a stark reality persists: 50-80% of medical equipment in low-income (LIC) and lower-middle-income countries (LMIC) is not functional, leaving hospitals and clinics unable to properly diagnose and treat patients. TRIMEDX Foundation works to meet this need by sending volunteer technicians around the world to repair and replace medical equipment. TRIMEDX Foundation furthers its impact through partnerships with U.S.-based Medical Surplus Recovery Organizations (MSROs) to prepare and repair medical equipment for international shipment and to assist hospitals in LICs and LMICs with optimizing donated medical equipment.

MSROs accept donated medical equipment and TRIMEDX Foundation volunteers provide expert assessment, repair, and consultation to ensure the equipment fits the needs of the receiving facility and it’s received in good working order upon international shipment. Beyond providing excellent equipment consulting, our volunteers are ingenious and flexible in the way they use their skills and experiences. Volunteers Josetta Caudill and Mary Larkin worked tirelessly, dedicating their time for more than a year, creating a Biomed Inventory Module for Supplies Over Seas (SOS) in Louisville, Kentucky, to track equipment, condition, and even organize warehouse logistics, increasing efficiency and ensuring accuracy. Denise Sears, president and CEO of SOS shares the value of responsible donation, and the value TRIMEDX Foundation volunteers bring with their expertise.Mary Larkin-1

“Working with MSROs is important for healthcare organizations wanting to donate equipment overseas,” says Sears. “While the donor may be well intentioned, uncoordinated shipments could contain items that are expired, or lack accessories, parts or manuals. Matching medical equipment with the needs of our partners is critical.”
